After a baseball game I planned to go to was cancelled due to a thunderstorm and I was taking the same
pictures of New York taken over a thousand times before, I had the idea to start collecting signatures
on a baseball from New Yorkers I met along the way - each signature capturing a fleeting moment of
connection in this magnificent chaos.
New York City had always been a dream of mine, large in my imagination through countless movies and
stories. When I finally visited in spring 2022, I was struck by the size of the skyscrapers towering
over me, their immense scale filling me with awe and wonder.
Looking back now, those signatures tell a story of my journey and the cities residents - the comic
book vendor from Ireland looking to retire and move down to Florida, the security guard at the MoMa
who was a fan of cricket, the street food vendors proud mark of ownership. Like a time capsule of
human connection, each signature reminds me of the raw, unfiltered spirit of New York. The city is
like London's bolder, louder cousin. Every time I return, exploring new corners of the boroughs, I'm
struck by how a place can feel both comfortingly familiar and thrillingly foreign at the same time.
